Troops under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a have thwarted an attack by a militia group on Teegbe community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one assailant and arresting two others during a chase into neighbouring Kaduna State.
The operation was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama via a post on X. He said the troops responded swiftly to a distress call around 9 a.m. on Wednesday after the community came under attack.
Makama noted that the troops “engaged the armed assailants upon arrival in Teegbe,” forcing the attackers to retreat towards Baduru Sama in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The troops pursued the fleeing attackers and, during a heated confrontation, succeeded in killing one of them.
Subsequent clearance operations led to the arrest of two suspects believed to be members of a local bandit group. They were identified as 40-year-old Sani Adamu and 20-year-old Buhari Mohammed.
Security forces also recovered 42 rustled cows and ₦20,200 in cash from the neutralised suspect during the operation.
Sadly, two residents of Teegbe lost their lives in the attack, while one other sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
A soldier, Lance Corporal Tope Awoniyi, was also injured in the exchange and is currently receiving care at the 3 Division Medical Services and Hospital.
The military has taken custody of the arrested suspects and the recovered items for further investigation, according to Makama.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to contain criminal activities and restore peace to conflict-prone areas in Plateau and Kaduna States.
