Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved N1 billion in soft loans for market women in the state to boost their businesses and improve their lives. The announcement was made during an event commemorating International Women’s Day in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo commended Edo women for their steadfastness, dedication, and commitment to moving the state forward. He emphasized the importance of supporting women, saying, “We can actually do nothing as men without women.”
The soft loan approval process is already underway, with the governor assuring that the funds will be disbursed through a relevant financial institution. Okpebholo praised the women of Edo State, describing them as “truthful and straightforward”.
Edesili Okpebholo, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, urged Edo women to speak out and add value to their communities. She commended the governor for taking decisive steps to ensure equal opportunities and justice for women.
The event, organized by the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, brought together women from various segments of the nation’s economy. The 2025 International Women’s Day celebration emphasizes the need to accelerate action towards achieving gender equality and empowering women worldwide.
