Dangote Refinery achieves a significant milestone by exporting its first shipment of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to Cameroon. This achievement marks an important step for Africa’s largest oil refinery, located in Lagos, Nigeria, and demonstrates its capacity to meet both domestic and regional energy needs.
The export was facilitated through a strategic collaboration between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil, a leading energy company in Cameroon. The partnership underscores a shared vision for energy independence and intra-African trade, with both companies working together to strengthen energy security and foster economic development.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the Dangote Group, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating that it aligns with the refinery’s goal of promoting resource utilization within the continent. “This first export of PMS to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa. By refining and trading our resources within the continent, we are ensuring that Africa’s wealth benefits its people,” he remarked.
Antoine Ndzengue, Director and Owner of Neptune Oil, highlighted the transformative nature of the partnership for Cameroon, particularly in terms of energy security and economic growth. “This collaboration with Dangote Refinery is a game-changer for Cameroon. Sourcing PMS directly from this world-class refinery strengthens our energy security and boosts local economic development. By bypassing international intermediaries, we are delivering efficient and independent solutions for our market,” he said.
The partnership extends beyond this initial shipment. Both companies are focused on establishing a long-term and sustainable supply chain that aims to stabilize fuel prices while creating economic opportunities in the region. This effort is expected to have a lasting impact, bolstering energy security and supporting regional economic growth.
The Dangote Refinery, with its immense processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is recognized as the largest single-train refinery in the world. As a flagship project of the Dangote Group, it represents a significant step forward in redefining Africa’s energy landscape.
For Cameroon, the import of PMS from Dangote Refinery signals a new era of energy independence. By sourcing petroleum products locally, the country is reducing its reliance on international intermediaries, which strengthens local energy security and supports broader economic initiatives.
This collaboration between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil also underscores the potential of intra-African trade. By leveraging African resources to meet African needs, both companies are setting a precedent for future partnerships that could transform the continent’s economic landscape.
Overall, this milestone highlights the commitment of both organizations to fostering a sustainable and prosperous energy ecosystem within Africa, paving the way for continued collaboration and development.
