Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has presented a budget estimate of N605 billion for the 2025 fiscal year. The proposed budget, tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” represents a 25% increase from the 2024 budget.
The budget allocates 37% (N223 billion) for recurrent expenditure and 63% (N381 billion) for capital projects. Governor Okpebholo emphasized that the proposed budget is a product of wide consultations, ensuring accountability and transparency in governance for responsive service delivery to the people of Edo state.
Key areas of focus in the budget include:
Road Infrastructure*: N162 billion has been allocated for road development across the state, aiming to improve connectivity and economic growth.
Education*: The government has pledged to provide N500 million monthly subvention to the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, and N48 billion for other tertiary institutions.
Security and Community Development*: The administration plans to resolve hostilities between communities, having recently purchased 20 patrol vehicles and lifted the ban on the Edo State Vigilante.
Healthcare*: N63.9 billion has been earmarked for healthcare, with N1.8 billion set aside for health insurance.
Agriculture*: N4.5 billion has been proposed for the agricultural sub-sector, focusing on farm mechanization and ensuring the security of farmers and farmlands.
The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, assured the Governor that the house will work with relevant stakeholders to ensure speedy passage of the bill.
