The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a firm stand against the repeated postponements of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting by the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC). During an emergency meeting in Abuja on Thursday, BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara criticized the delays and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to reconciliation, including plans to meet former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in January.
The NEC, initially set for August 15, 2024, has been postponed multiple times, leaving members frustrated. Wabara emphasized the importance of the NEC as a platform for consultation, collaboration, and decision-making, warning that further delays could undermine trust within the party.
“The delay in convening the NEC meeting erodes the confidence of our members. Adherence to timelines and commitments is essential for resolving pressing issues and charting a clear path forward,” Wabara said.
He stressed that the party’s strength lies in its unity and democratic principles and urged the NWC to convene the NEC by February 2025. Wabara also addressed Nigeria’s economic challenges under the Tinubu administration, urging the PDP to provide credible alternatives and amplify the voices of struggling Nigerians.
The BoT plans to prioritize dialogue and collaboration in the new year, beginning with peace talks involving Wike. The former National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, commended the BoT’s intervention, calling it timely and patriotic.
As the PDP navigates internal discord, Wabara urged members to prioritize the party’s shared vision over personal ambitions, reaffirming the BoT’s role as the party’s conscience.
