Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has appointed his brother, Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, as the new Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission.
The announcement was made recently in Asaba, with Governor Oborevwori expressing confidence in his brother’s capability to advance sports development in the state.
This appointment comes nearly a year after Chief Tonobok Okowa’s eight-year tenure as Chairman of the Sports Commission concluded.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the appointment is part of his administration’s dedication to promoting sports excellence and providing opportunities for the state’s youth to excel in various athletic fields.
The newly appointed board also includes several prominent figures such as former international footballer Sam Sodje, Oghale Ofremu, and Herrita Ehiabor. Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, a grassroots footballer and strong advocate for women’s football, has previously been the sole sponsor of Delta Babes Football Club and an Allstars player.
Sam Okemuete Sodje, a retired footballer who played for top clubs in Nigeria and England, was a member of the Nigerian Super Eagles from 2005 to 2009 and is part of the Delta State Football Association. Henrietta Ehiabor, the former Chairperson of Delta Queens FC, led the team to victory in the Nigerian Female Professional League.
Oghale Ofremu is the Chairman of NLO1, a nationwide league one side, and a club owner associated with former sports commission member Solomon Ogba.
