Marius Borg Hoiby, the 27-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has been arrested in Oslo on suspicion of rape, police confirmed ¹. The charge relates to “sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons is unable to resist the act.” Hoiby faces additional accusations of “abuse in close relationships,” breaching a restraining order, and driving without a valid driver’s license.
Hoiby’s defense attorney, Oyvind Bratlien, stated that his client denies the rape charge and is cooperating with the police. The Royal Palace has declined to comment, directing all questions to police and Hoiby’s legal representatives.
This arrest follows a violent incident in August at an apartment in Oslo’s Frogner district, where Hoiby pleaded guilty to bodily harm and property damage. Police suspect domestic abuse in this case. He has also pleaded guilty to making a death threat in a separate incident but has denied other allegations tied to two past relationships.
Hoiby is under investigation for allegations of abuse involving four women. At the time of his arrest, he was in a car with the woman from the August incident. His personal life has attracted media attention before, including selling designer items on a Norwegian resale app and appearing in a popular Norwegian teen TV show.
Hoiby is currently being held by authorities in Oslo. His arrest has sparked significant attention due to his connection to the Norwegian royal family.
