A devastating building collapse has occurred in the federal capital territory, leaving over 40 persons trapped under the rubble, according to eyewitnesses and emergency responders.
The incident happened at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time, when a four-story building under construction suddenly crumbled, burying workers and bystanders.
Rescue teams from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross, and local authorities are working tirelessly to extricate those trapped.
“We are doing everything possible to save those trapped,” said a spokesperson for NEMA. “Our priority is to rescue as many people as possible.”
While official casualty figures are not yet confirmed, witnesses report seeing multiple injured persons being rushed to nearby hospitals.
The cause of the collapse is unknown, but an investigation is underway.
The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council has promised to take action against those responsible.
