Times Are Tough, But Scooping Fuel is Suicidal – Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep concern over the safety of Nigerians in light of recent fuel-related tragedies, calling on government agencies to launch an urgent public awareness campaign.

In a statement addressing the nation, Abubakar acknowledged the difficulties many Nigerians are facing, stating, “I know that the times are tough for Nigerians. It has even been made more challenging by the trial-and-error policies of this bumbling administration.” He emphasized the importance of valuing lives, saying, “Your lives are the most precious things that should never be mortgaged.”

Highlighting the dangers associated with the practice of scooping fuel from fallen petroleum tankers, he urged the relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to act quickly. “This is why it is pertinent that the concerned government MDAs should commence a robust campaign to educate citizens on the dangers of scooping fuel from fallen petroleum tankers. Your lives matter to you and your loved ones.”

Abubakar warned against the reckless behavior of scooping petrol, describing it as “a suicide that no one should undertake.” He referenced the tragic incidents that have occurred, including the recent disaster in Cross River State, asserting, “We’ve experienced too many tragedies from incidents such as the latest one in Cross River State, and everything must be done to avert another.”
