The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has provided significant support to the African Development Fund (ADF) through a substantial concessional loan. This loan will aid Africa’s least developed and fragile countries.
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), praised Japan’s unwavering support and highlighted the loan’s impact on vital development projects. He noted that Japan has consistently been a top donor to the ADF.
The AfDB President emphasized the loan’s importance in addressing Africa’s pressing challenges, including climate change, infrastructure gaps, and private sector development. He expressed gratitude for Japan’s broader partnership.
Daiho Fujii, Japan’s Deputy Vice Minister of Finance, expressed optimism about the loan’s potential to support African countries. He stressed the importance of collaboration and commitment.
JICA Executive Senior Vice President Katsura Miyazaki described the signing ceremony as symbolic, acknowledging African countries’ multiple crises. She emphasized the African Development Fund’s critical role in addressing these challenges.
The ADF has played a pivotal role in providing concessional resources and knowledge services to low-income African countries. Japan’s support has been instrumental in the ADF’s success, cementing its reputation as a trusted partner.
