Gov Fubara Swears In 23 New Rivers Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has sworn in the newly elected council chairmen and vice chairmen of the 23 local government areas in the state. The ceremony took place at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on October 6.

The swearing-in came hours after the chairmen received their certificates of return from Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). The LGA chairmen election, held on October 5, was marked by heightened tension, but ultimately saw the Action Peoples Party (APP) emerge victorious, securing 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions. The Action Alliance candidate won the remaining seat in Etche Local Government Area.

During the ceremony, Governor Fubara urged the newly elected chairmen to remain humble and focused on serving the people, rather than seeking personal gain. He emphasized the importance of resisting provocation to violence and working towards peace and development in the state.

Notable figures in attendance included Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum. The successful completion of the elections and inauguration of the new local government chairmen marks a new chapter in grassroots governance in Rivers State.
