In a historic turn of events, the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of all the Twenty Three Local Government Chairmanship positions and the 276 Councillorship seats in the just concluded Local Government Polls held on Saturday, the 5th of October, 2024.
Chairman Barrister Terlumun Tombowua made the announcement during a World Press Conference at the BSIEC Headquarters in Makurdi. He stated that the exercise was peaceful, calm, transparent, and was adjudged to be credible, free, and fair in the history of Benue State.
The Chairman further disclosed that the Commission would issue Certificate of Return to the winners of the local government council chairmen at 2pm.
Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), Comrade Otene Idoko, commended BSIEC for conducting credible polls in the state since the inception of democracy. He also extended his congratulations to APC for their overwhelming victory in the election.
State APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Doctor Benjamin Omale, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the Election. He commended BSIEC for conducting an acceptable election and thanked Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia Ph.D. and the Leader of the Party in the State for providing the necessary support, which he believed contributed to the party’s victory in the local government polls.
The declaration of APC as the winner of all local government chairmanship positions and councillorship seats has marked a significant achievement for the party in Benue State. The peaceful and transparent conduct of the election has been lauded by stakeholders, and it is hoped that this victory will lead to positive development and progress in the state.
