EDO STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: OKPEBHLO EMERGES VICTORIOUS

In a keenly contested gubernatorial election held in Edo State on Saturday, Sen.Monday Okpebholo has emerged victorious, polling a total of 291,667 votes to clinch the victory. The election, which saw 18 political parties vying for the gubernatorial seat, took place in 4,519 polling units across the 18 local governments of Edo State.

 

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Asuerinme Ighodalo, came in second, scoring 247,274 votes, while Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) trailed behind in third place with 22,763 votes.

 

The results of the election, as declared by the INEC Returning Officer for the Edo Governorship Election, Prof Kuta, indicated a clear victory for Okpebholo across several local governments. Notably, in the Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Okpebholo garnered a total of 26,382 votes, defeating his closest rival by a significant margin.

 

Born on August 29, 1970, in Udomi-Uwesan, Irrua, Edo Central, Okpebholo, who also goes by the nickname Akpakomisa, has a background in Business Administration and currently serves as the Senator representing Edo Central in the National Assembly.

 

As the newly elected Governor of Edo State, Okpebholo is expected to continue his work in the development and progress of the state, building on the achievements of his first term in office.
