A devastating building collapse at Saints Academy in Jos North, Plateau State, has left a community in mourning. On July 12, a two-storey building housing the secondary arm of the school crumbled, claiming the lives of 22 students and injuring 132 others. The tragic incident occurred as students were preparing for their third-term promotion examination.
The school had 284 secondary students and 145 primary pupils. Of the 132 hospitalized, 97 have been treated and discharged. Parents and teachers are still reeling from the shock, with some sharing their harrowing experiences.
Mrs. Saleh, who lost two children, and Joy Chinecherem, whose three children survived, expressed their grief and gratitude. A teacher, Mrs. Kelvin, credited her escape to divine intervention, having jumped through a window to safety. The community is coming to terms with the loss, and the injured are receiving treatment. The memory of this tragic event will linger, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those affected.
