Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has averred that the federal government will penalize power distribution companies (DisCos) failing to provide 20 hours of electricity to Band A category customers.
Adelabu shared this update via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, outlining adjustments made within the newly revised tariff system targeting Band A consumers.
Following the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) recent tariff hike for Band A customers from N66/kWh to N225/kWh, the minister reiterated that Band A customers are those receiving a minimum of 20 hours of daily power supply.
Emphasizing accountability, Adelabu affirmed the government’s commitment to sanction DisCos for any shortfall in meeting this requirement.
Additionally, Adelabu highlighted that the tariff adjustment reforms aim to save the federal government N1.5 trillion while still subsidizing lower bands.
These pricing adjustments are intended to bolster liquidity in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), with DisCos facing consequences for failing to meet the specified electricity supply duration for Band A customers.
