Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, on Tuesday alleged that a faction of dissatisfied Senators is actively plotting to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio before he reaches his first anniversary in office in June.

Bamidele while vehemently dismissing Senator Abdul Ningi’s assertion that the 2024 Budget, passed by the Senate under Akpabio’s leadership, was padded, characterized the allegations as a “civilian coup.”

Expressing his frustration, Bamidele, who is also the Senate Majority Leader, accused Ningi, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, of making deliberate attempts to oust Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He accused Ningi of inciting the Northern Senators’ Forum, which he chairs, against Akpabio, a southern senator who succeeded Ahmad Lawan.
