In a tragic series of events, suspected armed herdsmen have reportedly killed a soldier, injured another, killed two farmers, and injured several others in separate attacks on Ochumekwu and Udedeku communities in Apa and Kwande Local Government areas of Benue State. The attacks occurred on Sunday afternoon and have left the affected communities in a state of shock and fear.

The military personnel who were attacked were part of the troops of the military spike operation, code-named Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, deployed to the state to address the activities of armed herdsmen and bandits terrorizing the locals. They were ambushed while on patrol in the community, resulting in the tragic loss of one soldier and injuries to another.

In a separate incident in Udedeku community of Maav-Ya, Mkoonmom district of Mbaikyor Council Ward, Turan Jato-Aka in Kwande local government area, two farmers were killed and several others were injured during a raid by armed herdsmen. The attackers reportedly slaughtered the victims, causing widespread panic and prompting residents to flee their homes in search of safety.

The Force Commander of OPWS, Maj. Gen. He assured that OPWS is conducting a clearance operation to address the presence of suspected armed foreign herders in the affected areas.
