Former Vice-Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized the Federal Government over the seizure of three brand-new jets secretly bought by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, terming it “an international embarrassment.”
Obi expressed concern over the government’s insensitivity to the economic hardship faced by Nigerians, pointing out that the $100m spent on the jets could have alleviated poverty and addressed education issues.
He condemned the secrecy surrounding the jet purchase, emphasizing that federal government property belongs to the people and should be managed transparently. Obi demanded answers on the extent to which the Ogun government followed its agreement with the Chinese firm and what actions were taken after the UK court ruling.
The former governor of Anambra State called on the federal government to come clean and transparent about the matter, urging accountability and respect for the rule of law. Obi’s statement highlights the need for transparency and accountability in government dealings, especially in times of economic hardship.
