A middle-aged man, Terhide Garfa, has allegedly committed suicide by entering a fenced electricity transformer in Kanshio community, Makurdi, Benue State.
His body was discovered on Thursday at 3:45 pm. Witnesses reported hearing the man threaten to kill himself if he couldn’t speak with his mother, but it’s unclear if he did. The transformer is fully fenced, making it unclear how he entered. Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) and the police have expressed shock and are investigating the incident.
While JED suspects attempted vandalism, police are working to determine if it was a suicide or another circumstance. The incident has left the community in shock, with many questioning the motives behind the man’s actions.
