Residents of Royal Gardens Estate in the Ajah area of Lagos State staged a peaceful protest on Thursday, decrying the imposition of high service charges by the estate developer, Trojan Estates.
Led by the estate executives, the protesters demanded transparency in determining annual service charges and an end to bulk metering, which they claimed causes frequent power outages.
The residents expressed concerns over excessive maintenance charges and indiscriminate billing, despite the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s agreement to eliminate bulk billing and implement individual metering and billing. The estate chairman, Anthony Ogbebor, emphasized that the practice continues, and residents are seeking a fair and honest billing system.
