The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed deep concern over the prevailing economic hardship and increasing security challenges in the country. In a statement released by the organization in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory, CAN highlighted the escalating insecurity caused by rampant killings and kidnappings for ransom, particularly citing the recent attack on Plateau State where no fewer than 300 people were killed.
The association called on the Federal Government to urgently address the economic and security situation. It emphasized the need for the government to take decisive steps to address the high cost of living and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
Elder Sunday Oibe, the Secretary-General of Northern CAN, urged the government to do everything possible to halt the killings not only in Plateau but across the country. Oibe called on the government to take immediate action, emphasizing that the time to act is now.
The Christian body also stressed the importance of protecting lives and property across the country. Furthermore, it urged the government to take urgent steps to improve the economic situation for the benefit of all Nigerians.
In addition, CAN encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and law-abiding while also calling for prayers for the peace and security of the country.
