Leader of the House removed and fire incident raises suspicions of impeachment plot against Governor Siminalayi Fubara

In a shocking turn of events, the Rivers State House of Assembly witnessed yet another major development as Edison Ehie was removed from his position as the Leader of the House on Monday morning. This decision was backed by a total of 24 members of the Assembly, signifying a significant majority supporting Ehie’s removal.

The removal of Edison Ehie comes amidst heightened tensions in the Assembly, following a fire incident that occurred on Sunday night. The Assembly chamber was engulfed in flames, leaving the lawmakers and the public bewildered. Suspicions surrounding the fire incident have now intensified, with many speculating that it may be connected to an alleged plot to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Reports suggest that political thugs in a white Hilux van invaded the Assembly complex at approximately 9pm. They reportedly managed to disarm the security personnel on duty and proceeded to set the building ablaze. Located opposite the Headquarters of the State Command Police on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, the assembly complex has become a scene of escalating political turmoil.

The motive behind the fire incident and the subsequent removal of Edison Ehie is believed to stem from the alleged move to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Today, October 30, was marked as the resumption date for the Assembly’s sitting, during which the lawmakers were expected to discuss and potentially carry out the impeachment process. However, the exact reasons behind the move to impeach the governor remain undisclosed at this time.

In response to the escalating tensions, heightened security measures have been put in place at the Assembly complex. Over 17 security trucks and four Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) have been deployed, with more than 50 federal security personnel stationed at the facility. This heavy security presence reflects the seriousness of the situation and aims to maintain law and order in the face of potential unrest.

There are also rumors surrounding a rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister. These rumors add a layer of complexity to the ongoing political landscape in Rivers State and have fueled speculation regarding the motives behind the alleged impeachment plot.

As the situation unfolds, the Rivers State House of Assembly remains at the center of attention, with stakeholders anxiously awaiting further developments. The removal of Edison Ehie as the Leader of the House and the fire incident have only deepened the political storm brewing within the Assembly, leaving the future of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the stability of the state hanging in the balance.
