FORMER Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Assembly Matters, Kawu Sumaila has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to arrest and prosecute Senator Kabiru Gaya, Chairman Senate Committee on INEC, for alleged vote buying.
He stated this on Saturday at a Special Press Conference in Kano adding that he had dumped the people he is supposed to be representing and never visited his Constituency in the last four years.
Kawu further stated that the money was disbursed by Senator Gaya to 1000 people from the 16 local governments, totalling N80 million in the Senatorial District and had nothing to do with constituency project because there is no record of such in the budget.
He challenged Sen Gaya that if the said amount is contained in the budget, he should mention the exact sum, code in the budget, the federal government agency responsible and the representatives of the agency in question.
He therefore alleged that the Senator was using his personal money to buy votes which is a political malpractice that should call for the attention of the authorities concerned.
“If however the money he is disbursing is his personal funds, why didnt he do this since? Why now? This is a clear vote buying and as such we are calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission “(EFCC) to arrest and prosecute him for vote buying” he declared.
He also said “It seems Senator Kabiru Gaya has taken the people of Kano South for granted and is treating our people with utter disdain.
“Having spent 16 years as a Senator, we expect Senator Gaya to give a detailed breakdown of his achievements.
“Instead he has engaged in a deperate attempt to deceive, blindfold and cajole the people with just N5,000:00 only under the guise of empowerment” he stated.
