THE Secretary General/Member Board of Trustees, The Muhammadu Buhari Legacies Implementation Initiative, a Non-governmental Organization (NGO) Abubakar Assaddeeq has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to effect a speedy and expeditious change of guard at the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mills for a substantive leader to run the affairs of the firm confidently.
This was contained in a Press statement issued to Newsmen stating that there was nothing that could turn the fortunes of the Company around, than the appointment of a Professional in the Ajaokuta Steel Company Management at the time the government is in dare need of reviving and resuscitating the steel works and iron ore industry.
According to him, the famous Ajaokuta Steel Company had over the years suffered a serious neglect in the hands of past successive administrations at the expense of national interest pointing out that running the affairs of such a gigantic outfit is not the business of greenhorns.
He said lack of a substantive leader had been the bane of the Company for inexplicable economic reasons and given a Professional and experienced personality with considerable expertise would be the best way forward to prove the efficiency of the organization for greater results.
While barring his mind on the reappointment and extension of another two years for the Sole-administrator of the Company after five years of mischievous and incompetence in running the affairs of the company, deterred the current government’s plan to make Ajaokuta Steel functional.
The Secretary General said with the recent fire disaster that ravages the Steel Complex last week Tuesday for twelve (12) hours razing down some sections of buildings which took the fire services Six (6) hours the following day before everything was brought under control to butress his point, over the issue of gross incompetence,
the Secretary General however stated that the damage inflicted by the fire disaster could have been averted with prompt managegerial intervention.

While calling on the Federal Government to avoid the mistake of planting a neophyte at the centre of the leadership of the company, Assaddeeq further stressed that the issue of incompetence must be taken into cognizance for the much pronounced organisational goals to be achieved.
