Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to his long-standing association with the party.
In a resignation letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to his ward chairman in Ondo West Local Government Area, Mimiko said the move was a personal decision reached after careful thought and wide consultations.
He explained that he had stayed away from active party activities for some time, which gave him the space to reflect on his political journey and future direction. According to him, stepping away from the PDP became necessary, especially in light of growing speculation about his political position.
Mimiko made it clear that his exit was not driven by any bitterness, noting that he holds no grudges against anyone in the party and wishes them well going forward.
Despite his departure, the former governor подчеркed his continued commitment to Nigeria’s democratic growth and national development, saying he remains open to working with others who share similar ideals.
His former Chief Press Secretary, Eni Akinsola, confirmed the development but did not reveal what Mimiko’s next political move might be.
Meanwhile, there are increasing rumours linking Mimiko with the All Progressives Congress (APC), following reports of a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
