Umahi Links Tinubu’s Second Term to Completion of Bodo-Bonny Road Phase 2

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has urged residents of the Bodo-Bonny communities to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid, describing it as the most reliable path to completing Phase 2 of the Bodo-Bonny road project.

Speaking on Friday in Abuja at a medallion award ceremony organised by the Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridges Peace Committee, Umahi—represented by Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo—highlighted the strategic importance of the project. He described the road as a vital economic corridor that would connect coastal communities to the mainland, improve security, and unlock prosperity across the Niger Delta.

“The road is a bridge to opportunity, a lifeline for commerce, and a symbol of national cohesion,” he said, adding that the Federal Government remains committed to delivering quality infrastructure that strengthens national connectivity.

Umahi disclosed that President Tinubu has already approved Phase 2 of the project and that the ministry is ready to commence work immediately. However, he emphasized the need for continued political support, noting that “one good turn deserves another.”

He further stressed Tinubu’s inclusive leadership style, saying the president is committed to unity and development across all regions of Nigeria.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Prof. Jasper Jumbo, described the project as a long-awaited breakthrough after nearly four decades of delay. He noted that despite its significance as a major oil and gas hub, the Bodo-Bonny corridor had remained cut off from the mainland, relying heavily on water transport.

Jumbo explained that persistent challenges—including issues with the initial contractor—had slowed progress, but sustained advocacy and cooperation among stakeholders helped revive the project.

He commended the Federal Government and the Ministry of Works for approving Phase 2, which will link the coastal communities to the East-West Road, describing it as a realization of the people’s long-held aspirations.
