President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, for another five-year tenure effective February 27, 2026.
The announcement, made by the Corps, described the renewal as a decisive affirmation of the strategic reforms, operational expansion, and institutional discipline that have redefined the NSCDC over the past five years. The decision underscores the confidence of the Federal Government in the capacity of the Corps to assume greater responsibilities within Nigeria’s evolving security architecture.
Professor Audi, who has led the NSCDC since 2021, has overseen significant reforms aimed at strengthening the agency’s operational efficiency and national relevance. Under his leadership, the Corps intensified the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, strengthened enforcement against economic sabotage, enhanced regulation of Private Guard Companies, expanded intelligence-driven operations, and reinforced inter-agency collaboration nationwide.
These efforts, according to the statement, have repositioned the NSCDC as a frontline agency in safeguarding national stability and public safety.
President Tinubu further charged the Commandant-General to consolidate the gains recorded during his first tenure and elevate the Corps’ role in internal security, particularly as national efforts intensify against banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, illegal mining, vandalism, and other threats to economic security.
The renewed mandate signals continuity of vision, stability of command, and acceleration of ongoing reforms within the Corps. It ushers in a new phase expected to focus on operational sophistication, technological advancement, improved personnel welfare, infrastructural development, and strengthened community engagement across the country.
Professor Audi, who joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in 1996 and rose steadily through the ranks through dedication and professionalism, is widely regarded as a symbol of institutional resilience and transformative leadership within the Corps. His reappointment is seen not only as recognition of past achievements but also as a strategic investment in the future of the organization.
The statement was signed by Babawale Afolabi, ANIPR, Assistant Commandant of Corps and National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC.
