The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze and cloudy weather conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted slight dust haze across the northern region on Monday throughout the forecast period. However, states such as Borno State and Yobe State are expected to experience moderate dust haze, with horizontal visibility ranging from 2km to 5km.
For the North Central region, the agency said slight dust haze would prevail throughout the forecast period.
In the southern region, NiMet anticipated a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine, alongside slim chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River State and Akwa Ibom State. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by light rains are expected over parts of Ondo State, Ogun State, Lagos State, Edo State, Bayelsa State, Cross River, Rivers State, Delta State and Akwa Ibom.
On Tuesday, NiMet projected moderate dust haze over the northern region with horizontal visibility between 2km and 5km, while slight dust haze is expected across the North Central states. The southern region will experience cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine and chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Later in the day, thunderstorms with light rains are forecast over parts of Lagos, Oyo State, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
By Wednesday, the agency predicted thick dust haze across both the northern and North Central regions throughout the forecast period. In the South, cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine are expected, with possible morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. Later in the day, thunderstorms with light rains are anticipated over parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
NiMet urged members of the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles remain suspended over the northern, North Central, and inland states of the South. The agency advised individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions to be cautious due to the prevailing weather conditions.
It also recommended that airline operators obtain airport-specific weather reports, also known as flight documentation, from NiMet to ensure effective operational planning.
