Arsenal’s Premier League title push suffered a painful dent on Sunday as Manchester United snatched a dramatic 3–2 victory at the Emirates Stadium, leaving home fans stunned by a late twist.
The Gunners started brightly and were rewarded in the 29th minute, albeit with a slice of luck, when Lisandro Martinez diverted the ball into his own net under pressure. Arsenal looked in control, but their momentum was halted just before the break by a costly defensive mistake. A weak back pass was pounced on by Bryan Mbeumo, who calmly rounded David Raya to level the score.
United emerged from the interval with renewed belief and were rewarded when Patrick Dorgu unleashed a brilliant strike from distance to put the visitors ahead. A tense hush fell over the Emirates as Arsenal struggled to find their rhythm.
Mikel Arteta’s side rallied late on and appeared to have rescued a point in the 84th minute when Mikel Merino bundled home from close range following a Bukayo Saka corner. Relief quickly turned to despair, however, as United struck back almost immediately.
With just three minutes remaining, Matheus Cunha produced a moment of magic, firing an unstoppable long-range effort past Raya to seal a memorable win for United.
The defeat ended Arsenal’s 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions and marked their first home loss since May. It also reignited the title race, with the Gunners now only four points clear of Manchester City and Aston Villa.
For Manchester United, it was another statement victory under interim boss Michael Carrick, extending his impressive start and lifting the club into fourth place after back-to-back wins over the league’s top two sides.
