An early morning explosion on Tuesday jolted the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, triggering panic among hospital workers and nearby residents.
The blast affected part of the hospital’s staff quarters and was confirmed by the Kebbi State Police Command, which said no lives were lost.
Police spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said security operatives swiftly secured the area to prevent further danger, while a joint team of police, military and vigilante personnel cordoned off the scene.
“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure the public that the security situation is fully under control following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” Usman said in a statement obtained by SaharaReporters.
He disclosed that experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit have been deployed to examine the site as investigations continue.
According to the police, although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, occupants had evacuated before the explosion, resulting in no casualties.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered additional tactical deployments to maintain calm and reassure residents, while a full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion. Authorities have also advised the public to stay away from the hospital area to avoid interfering with security operations.
