Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have neutralised at least nine Boko Haram terrorists and rescued two abducted persons during coordinated clearance operations in parts of Borno State.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, said the operations were carried out by soldiers of the 109 Special Forces Battalion, Magumeri, following credible intelligence on the movement of insurgents around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area on October 10, 2025.
According to Uba, the terrorists—travelling in two vehicles and accompanied by about 24 fighters on foot—had attacked the community, setting houses ablaze and terrorising residents. Troops swiftly mobilised for a fighting patrol to confront them.
“As the troops moved towards the objective, the terrorists attempted to escape towards Damjiyakiri village,” he said. “The vehicle-borne elements dispersed, while the foot fighters were pursued for nearly 92 kilometres.”
After an intense four-hour chase, troops engaged the fleeing insurgents in a fierce battle, killing five of them instantly. Others escaped into the bush, leaving blood trails, indicating additional casualties.
Recovered items from the operation included an AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798), five magazines (two loaded, three empty), 31 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a dagger, and an Itel mobile phone. No casualties or equipment losses were recorded on the side of the troops.
In a separate encounter along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, OPHK troops on motorcycles clashed with another group of Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. Four terrorists were killed in the ensuing gun battle, while others fled into the surrounding forest.
Two kidnapped victims — identified as 55-year-old Modu Kinnami and 57-year-old Bukar, both from Guzamala Local Government Area — were rescued during the operation.
A bag containing ₦750,000 was recovered from the victims. Preliminary findings indicated that the insurgents had demanded ₦2 million and two new Tecno button phones as ransom for the release of a relative.
Other recovered items included a blue pickup truck (Reg. No. GUB 327 XA), two new Tecno button phones, a 30-litre jerrycan of petrol, and a total of ₦4,355,000 in cash.
Lt. Col. Uba added that troops have intensified clearance operations across all fronts to sustain pressure on the insurgents and restrict their movements in the North-East region.
