The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into viral images showing students dressed in police and military uniforms during a recent Costume Day celebration.
In a statement released on Friday, August 22, 2025, the Command described the act as “unauthorized” and “criminal,” warning that the misuse of security uniforms is a punishable offence under Nigerian law.
According to the police, such actions not only amount to impersonation but also risk undermining public trust in law enforcement agencies.
“The act is indecent and capable of damaging the image of the Nigerian Police Force,” the statement read.
The Command assured that it is working to identify those responsible and would ensure appropriate sanctions in line with the law.
Public reactions on social media have been mixed, with some condemning the incident as reckless, while others argued it was a harmless form of student expression during a school event.
Security analysts, however, warned that unauthorized use of uniforms poses risks, as criminal elements could exploit similar situations to impersonate security personnel.
The Adamawa Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, protecting the image of security agencies, and preventing any future misuse of official uniforms.
