The November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election is heating up as candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), and African Action Congress (AAC) have jointly condemned Governor Chukwuma Soludo for declaring he has “no opponent” in the forthcoming polls.
Governor Soludo, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), made the controversial statement at an endorsement rally in Awka, organized by stakeholders from the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone. He alleged that opposition candidates were only in the race to “raise funds for personal gains,” and dismissed their candidacies as unserious.
“They are not really contesting; they are just fundraising. We’ve not even started our campaign. Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra,” Soludo asserted during the rally.
APC Fires Back: ‘Your Ambition Is Fueled by State Funds’
Responding sharply, the APC campaign media team, led by Sir Arinzechukwu Awogu, accused the governor of running a re-election campaign funded entirely with public money. Awogu described Soludo’s statement as disrespectful and a deliberate attempt to downplay the candidacy of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife.
“Soludo cannot claim to have no opposition when credible figures like Prince Ukachukwu are in the race. If he’s confident, let him publish his financial records before becoming the CBN Governor,” Awogu stated.
He further alleged that contractors in the state had been told to halt payment requests until after the election, suggesting that state funds are being siphoned to bankroll Soludo’s campaign.
Awogu said, “Unlike Soludo, who is spending Anambra’s patrimony, Ukachukwu has financed his campaign personally. Soludo’s governance has delivered substandard roads and stagnation. He has no moral standing to mock others.”
Labour Party: ‘Anambra Deserves Results, Not Rhetoric’
The Labour Party also joined the fray, stating that Governor Soludo has failed to deliver on his promises. The LP candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, through his media aide Onyebuchi Okoye, described Soludo’s approach to governance as “distracting and uninspiring.”
“Moghalu is coming to deliver real governance, not propaganda. He’s committed to a single term and believes four years is enough to make a difference,” Okoye said.
He stressed that Anambra people should not be swayed by “soundbites or slogans” but should judge leadership by integrity, vision, and performance.
AAC: ‘N50m Fee is a Tactic to Stifle Opposition’
The African Action Congress (AAC) candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, also condemned the governor’s remarks and described the recently introduced N50 million campaign fee as a strategy designed to silence credible opposition.
“Soludo is using outrageous financial barriers to shut out emerging candidates. But I remain the candidate to beat,” she said.
Ifemeludike further unveiled a multifaceted youth-focused campaign, featuring entertainment and sports engagement to connect with Anambra’s young electorate and encourage political participation.
Political Climate Intensifies
As the November polls draw nearer, political tensions in Anambra State are rising. While Soludo maintains that his performance guarantees him a second term, opposition parties argue that the electorate deserves a genuine alternative.
The coming weeks are expected to witness vigorous campaigns, policy debates, and a renewed focus on issues affecting Anambra residents—from infrastructure to security, youth empowerment, and transparency.
