A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has reacted with disbelief to the recent political alliance formed by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Bode George said he was shocked that both political heavyweights chose to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a party he described as “a ship that is already sinking.”
According to him, the move not only signifies poor political judgment but also reflects the role both men allegedly played in destabilising the PDP.
“Those who created the PDP crisis are the ones now leaving,” George stated. “I am shocked that Obi, Atiku, and others are jumping into a ship that is already sinking.”
He noted that despite the challenges within the PDP, the party remains intact and is preparing to hold a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in the coming week.
“We will discuss the programme of the party and approve all the committees that will oversee the convention,” he said. “The fact that we are in a position to hold that meeting shows you that the Iroko tree has been resurrected.”
George’s remarks come a day after Atiku Abubakar officially announced his defection from the PDP to the ADC, citing unresolved internal crises within the PDP as the reason for his exit.
The alliance between Obi and Atiku is already making waves within Nigeria’s political landscape, but Bode George’s comments highlight the growing rifts and realignments that may define the road to 2027.
