Burkina Faso has marked a historic milestone as Interim President Ibrahim Traoré officially inaugurated the newly renovated August 4th Stadium, following a $300 million upgrade. This development paves the way for the Stallions, Burkina Faso’s national football team, to play their first home match since 2021, Eyes Of Lagos reports.
Years of deteriorating infrastructure and security challenges had forced the team to stage international fixtures outside the country.
A Modern Stadium Ready for Global Football
The revamped stadium now boasts:
Digital scoreboards
VIP lounges and media areas
Enhanced seating capacity
Olympic-standard athletics track
Refurbished training centres and gyms
CAF and FIFA have both certified the venue for international matches, clearing the way for the Stallions’ return in September 2025.
A Symbol of National Pride and Renewal
President Traoré described the stadium as a beacon of national unity and resilience, tying its completion to government efforts focused on youth investment and public infrastructure renewal.
Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, who visited the site in May 2025, commended the project, noting it “exceeded expectations.”
Already positioned as a candidate for hosting regional tournaments and youth development programmes, the stadium enhances Burkina Faso’s standing in African sports.
