Edo Begins Property Owner Profiling in New City Development Area

The Edo State Government has officially launched a property owner profiling exercise in the New City Development Area, previously known as Coral City. The initiative is aimed at verifying and authenticating land ownership for eventual regularisation and the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O).

This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday by Dr. Abdulwasiu Oyakhire, Secretary to the Edo State Committee on Land Dispute Resolution.

According to the statement, all property owners in Lot-A and Lot-B of the New City Development Area are required to present themselves with relevant documents for verification. The profiling exercise will begin on Tuesday, June 3, and run through Friday, June 13.

The verification process will be carried out simultaneously at designated sites in both Lot-A and Lot-B by relevant state agencies.

“On June 3, the state government will commence a profiling exercise for property owners in the New City Development Area, formerly known as Coral City,” the statement reads. “Other sections of the area will undergo similar verification in later phases.”

Property owners are expected to present their survey plans. In instances where a survey is unavailable, accurate property coordinates will be accepted. The government has also provided on-site surveyors to assist those in need.

This development follows a recent peace-building meeting convened by Governor Monday Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin City. The governor met with leaders from the Oke-Oroma, Obagie, and Amagba communities to address land disputes and promote peaceful coexistence.

During the meeting, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the importance of document verification and pledged that the state government remains committed to ensuring lasting peace and development across the region.

“Our goal is to restore peace and ensure that every legitimate property owner receives proper documentation,” the governor said. “We must work together to build a city that thrives on harmony, law, and order.”

The profiling initiative marks a major step toward land dispute resolution and structured urban development in Edo State.
