Hobnob News — French Prime Minister François Bayrou faces one of the most pivotal moments of his five-month tenure as he appears before a parliamentary committee Thursday to address serious allegations of abuse cover-ups at a Catholic school.
Bayrou, 73, is under intense scrutiny over claims that during his time as education minister from 1993 to 1997, he was aware of—yet failed to act on—reports of systemic physical and sexual abuse at Notre-Dame de Betharram, a Catholic boarding school in southwestern France.
The long-serving centrist and close ally of President Emmanuel Macron has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, describing the allegations as a politically motivated “destruction” campaign. “This hearing will be my chance to show the truth and prove all of this false,” Bayrou declared ahead of the session.
