LAGOS — The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with key national and international partners, on Monday received 203 stranded Nigerians who voluntarily returned from Libya.
According to a statement posted on NEMA’s official X handle on Tuesday, the returnees were welcomed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Cargo Terminal, Lagos, at exactly 7:00 p.m. They arrived aboard a chartered Al Buraq Boeing flight with registration number 5A-BAC.
The agency disclosed that the group included 50 adult males, 96 adult females, 29 children, and 28 infants. Two individuals with medical emergencies were swiftly transferred to New Ikeja Hospital for proper medical care.
NEMA noted that the return operation was coordinated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and supported by various government agencies, including the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Nigeria Immigration Service, Department of State Services, Port Health Services, and the Nigeria Police Force.
Following biometric and profiling procedures, the returnees were relocated to the Igando Internally Displaced Persons Resettlement Centre where they will undergo reintegration programs aimed at restoring their dignity and supporting their return to normal life.
Hobnob News reports that this repatriation is part of ongoing efforts to rescue and rehabilitate Nigerians facing hardship and exploitation abroad, reaffirming the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its citizens at home and abroad.
