10 Vigilantes Killed as Suspected Boko Haram Fighters Attack Kwapre Community in Adamawa

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have once again unleashed terror on Kwapre, a community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing 10 vigilante members and leaving many others critically injured.

Hobnob News gathered on Sunday evening that the attackers stormed the village in large numbers on Saturday, April 26, 2025, targeting the local vigilantes who attempted to defend the community. Outnumbered and outgunned, the vigilantes were quickly overwhelmed, resulting in heavy casualties.

“We lost 10 brave men, and others are fighting for their lives at FMC Hong,” said Hyella Anthony, a Kwapre indigene and former councillor of Garaha Ward, who confirmed the tragic incident.

According to Anthony, several wounded vigilantes were immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Hong for urgent medical attention. “These gunmen came in large numbers, heavily armed, and overpowered our vigilantes who were trying to protect the village,” he added, his voice heavy with emotion.

This marks yet another grim chapter in Kwapre’s ordeal, as the community has suffered multiple attacks in recent months. Saturday’s assault was the fifth such attack on villages around Kwapre within the past two weeks alone, according to the District Head of Dugwaba, Simon Yakubu.

Speaking to Hobnob News, Yakubu expressed deep anguish over the repeated onslaughts. “The frequency and ferocity of these raids are alarming. The attackers are always heavily armed, and our people are largely defenseless. We are living in fear every day,” he lamented.

Community leaders are now calling for urgent intervention from security agencies to prevent further bloodshed and protect the vulnerable rural populations who have become frequent targets of insurgent violence.

As of press time, neither the Adamawa State Government nor security authorities have issued an official statement regarding the latest attack.
