Kwande, Benue State – The Member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Terseer Ugbor, has commended the Benue State Government for setting up a security committee to address boundary disputes and conflicts in Kwande Local Government.
Hon. Ugbor described the initiative as a “step in the right direction” and urged the committee to conduct extensive consultations to develop long-term solutions that will put an end to the recurring crisis in the area.
Expressing deep concern over the scale of the unrest, Hon. Ugbor highlighted the severe impact of the conflicts, including loss of lives, internal displacement, and disruption of farming activities. He noted that insecurity has prevented many constituents from returning to their homes and accessing farmlands, a crucial source of livelihood.
“As your representative, I am committed to working closely with the state and federal governments to ensure a permanent resolution to the security challenges in Kwande/Ushongo. Ending insecurity and fostering development in our constituency remains my top priority,” he stated.
Hon. Ugbor emphasized that once security is restored, the region will experience faster progress in development and empowerment initiatives, given its rich natural resources.
Furthermore, he reassured his constituents of his ongoing advocacy for those affected by violence, revealing that plans are underway to establish a border police post to strengthen security in the area.
The lawmaker also called on local vigilante groups to remain vigilant in protecting their communities against attacks while urging all stakeholders to work together towards lasting peace.
Residents of Kwande Local Government have long suffered from periodic conflicts, primarily driven by boundary disputes and land ownership issues. The establishment of the security committee offers renewed hope for stability and development in the region.
