A prosecution witness from the American International School testified in the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, revealing that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello paid a total of $1,606,763.68 for his children’s tuition.
The witness, Nicholas Ojehomon, an auditor at the school, stated that the payment covered Bello’s children’s school fees from their current classes until graduation. He also mentioned that the second portion of the fees was an advance payment for the children’s school fees.
Bello is currently facing an N80.2 billion fraud charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The commission had previously claimed that Bello paid $760,000 as advanced school fees for his children at the American International School, Abuja, shortly before the end of his tenure.
During the trial, Ojehomon disclosed that Bello’s brother, Ali Bello, contacted the school to make the payment, which was agreed upon by the school management. The fees were paid for four of Bello’s children enrolled in the school, and he also made payment for his “future children” to be enrolled in August 2022, if application was obtainable and space available.
