Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has weighed in on the discussion over who will take over as the next head coach of FC Barcelona, expressing his support for his friend Jose Mourinho to lead the Spanish club. This comes after former Barcelona player Xavi confirmed his departure from the team in January, igniting speculation about potential replacements.
In an interview with Spanish outlet Sport, Peseiro shared his belief that Mourinho would be the ideal candidate to manage Barcelona. “I would like Mourinho to go to coach Barça; he has to be in a team to win everything, because he is a winner,” Peseiro said. He expressed confidence in Mourinho’s abilities, stating, “I’m sure he would do well because of the demands he places on everything and everyone around him day after day, every minute, to build a team to win.”
Peseiro also emphasized his close relationship with Mourinho, highlighting their shared Portuguese background and their significant history together. “I’m Portuguese, a good friend of Mourinho… I like Mou. We were together at university, we met many times to talk about football. He gave me tickets when I was at Barcelona. When Queiroz called me to go to Madrid, the first one I called was Mourinho, not my wife,” Peseiro revealed.
As Barcelona continues its quest for a new coach, Peseiro’s support for Mourinho as a potential candidate adds a new dimension to the speculation surrounding the helm of the La Liga giants. Mourinho, who was recently dismissed from his position at AS Roma, could become a key contender for the managerial role at Barcelona. The spotlight now shifts to the club’s decision-makers as they explore their options for the forthcoming season.
